About Dr. Lila
Dr. Lila Stephenson has spent over a decade at the intersection of clinical excellence and faith-integrated healing — helping married couples move from disconnection, sexual brokenness, and the long shadow of unhealed trauma toward restored intimacy, renewed trust, and a covenant marriage that reflects God's original design.
Her path to this work was not purely academic. She married young, believing love was enough. Unhealed trauma quietly eroded what she and her husband were building — and without the right knowledge, tools, or support, they found themselves fighting each other instead of fighting for each other. Seven years into their marriage, the right resources changed everything. That turning point became the foundation of her calling — and the reason Make a Better Marriage exists today.
Dr. Lila is the Founder and Clinical Director of Make a Better Marriage, PLLC — a faith-integrated marriage, intimacy, and trauma-focused private practice offering clinical therapy, marriage coaching, and premium couples intensives. She provides virtual clinical services to individuals and couples in Georgia and Texas, and marriage and relationship coaching nationwide.
Her specializations include:
-
Childhood sexual trauma and its impact on adult intimacy and marriage
-
Faith-integrated couples therapy and sex therapy
-
Intimacy and sexual health within covenant marriage
-
Premarital counseling and conflict resolution
-
Trust repair, infidelity recovery, and covenant restoration
Dr. Lila is a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator and a CASE-certified Covenant Lovers instructor — bringing both evidence-based relational assessment tools and a biblically grounded intimacy framework to her work with couples. Her clinical approach draws on Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and trauma-informed practice — always integrated with a deep theological understanding of what covenant marriage was designed to be.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Lila is a sought-after national speaker, workshop facilitator, and trainer. She has lectured and taught on the subjects of Kingdom marriages, healing from sexual trauma, intimacy matters, and conflict resolution that protects the covenant. She is the published author of Affirming the Father's Gift: Reclaiming Sexuality (2019), available on Amazon. She co-hosts the Making Love-Better podcast with her husband, Minister Marvin Stephenson, and their content also appears on A Better Marriage Show on Roku television worldwide.
Together, Dr. Lila and Minister Marvin serve as Co-Directors of the Couples United Marriage Ministry within United Christian Faith Ministries (UCFM) — where they lead marriage enrichment, covenant restoration programming, and professional training for ministry leaders and counselors.
Dr. Lila and Minister Marvin have been married for over 37 years and have four adult children. Their marriage is not the backdrop to their ministry — it is the living proof that what they teach is real.
